- Taal Volcano was a prime tourist spot in the Philippines with its breathtaking view of the crater and the lake. Tourists can go to the crater by foot or as most prefer to ride one of the approximately 3,000 Taal horses. These horses provided income for their owners.
On January 12, Sunday, Taal volcano erupted and displaced approximately 500,000 families and thousands of animals were left behind including 3,000 of the Taal horses.
The Batangas provincial government quickly announced a lockdown of areas that are within the 14-kilometer radius of the volcano. Rescuers and volunteers rushed to save as many animals as they could. Numerous temporary shelters have been set-up to accommodate the rescued animals including horses, dogs, cats, birds, cows and other farm animals. Most of these animals are injured and shows signs of emotional trauma.
As of February 9, our team of volunteer guardians have already spent 21 days in Batangas and only leave to replenish supplies that came from our most generous and kind donors. Four of those 21 days our dedicated and heroic volunteers joined us in our rescue and relief mission. Your support fed hundreds of animals fed and rescued.
